ECUADORIAN PRISONS AND THE SAFETY OF THE INMATES

Abstract:

The objective of the article was to evaluate the safety of subjects deprived of their freedom in Ecuadorian prisons. To develop the study, a qualitative approach was used, with analytical scope, applying the inductive method, bibliographic research technique and questionnaire instrument; the situation of individuals in confinement in prisons became complex in terms of security and order, reason to investigate on good practices to protect people and their legitimacy to dignity. The result is a violation of the right to physical and moral integrity due to the lack of effective control or trust in prisons and the principle of protection of inmates. The State has the responsibility to exercise efficient control over prisons and to report acts of crime in order to sanction the insecurity of inmates’ lives.
