ELECTRODEPOSITION OF ZNO NANOSTRUCTURED FILMS FOR PHOTOVOLTAICS AND PHOTOELECTROCHEMICAL SENSING

Abstract:

ZnO nanomaterials have been vastly researched for functional devices thanks to favourable properties including wide band gap, large exciton binding energy and transparency, photosensitivity, chemical stability, and environmental friendliness. Photo-electrochemistry is one of the techniques employed in environmental and biological research due to high sensitivity, rapid response time, low detection limit and ease of operation while the low cost and easy fabrication of performant ZnObased solar cells supports photovoltaic energy as the most popular option for clean energy. The electrodeposition is one of the most appropriate synthesis approaches, given that the tailoring of the surface morphology and properties can be easily achieved by simply changing the synthesis conditions. Advanced knowledge on the growth of ZnO is required for a high effective and simple strategy to prepare novel nanostructured films for practical applications. This chapter highlights the applicability of electrodeposited nanostructured ZnO films for photo-electrochemical sensing and photovoltaics.
