EVALUATION OF ACCESSIBILITY AND USABILITY FOR BLIND PEOPLE OF EDUCATIONAL WEBSITES
Abstract:
The objective of this study is to develop a checklist for evaluating the accessibility and usability of educational websites for blind users. To construct the checklist, the researchers analyzed previous studies on web accessibility and usability evaluation of educational websites, as well as established guidelines and principles. An overall framework of eight usability criteria representing the three levels of interface design was constructed and accessibility guidelines and relevant issues for the blind user associated with each criterion were identified. As a result, a 27-item checklist was developed. The initial version of the checklist was reviewed and evaluated by interface design experts and teachers of blind students. The Content Validity Index was calculated to verify the validity of each item and the suggestions received were adapted. The second version was similarly reviewed and evaluated by a group of blind users. The resulting final version was applied to evaluate the educational website MOODLE Platform of the Institute Technologic Superior Riobamba. The evaluation results indicated a low accessibility and usability of the site for blind students.
