EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION IMPROVES PHYSICAL TOLERANCE IN CHILDREN WITH HEART DISEASE

Abstract:

Introduction: Advances in interventions have enabled about 80% of patients with heart disease to survive to adulthood. Objective: to determine whether an intervention program can improve the biophysical health of young children with heart disease. Methods: Patients 5 to 10 years of age with coronary heart disease were identified and invited to participate. The intervention group attended a 1-day education session. Results: After the intervention, there was a significant improvement in maximal exercise capacity in the intervention group. Conclusion: A structured intervention program significantly increased maximal exercise capacity and improved attitudes toward positive lifestyle changes.
