Early assessment of body composition in patients with liver transplantation

Abstract:

Methods: a body composition study was carried out using the bioimpedance InBody S10 in patients undergoing liver transplantation, postoperatively and 1 month after discharge. Several markers were analyzed: ASM/height2, percentage of body fat, phase angle (PA) and extracellular water ratio (ECW ratio). It was considered: low muscle mass when the ASM/height2 was< 7 kg/m2 in men or< 5.5 kg/m2 in women; normal PA according to the standardized tables by age and sex* and using the cut-off value of 4º; normal ECW ratio between 0.360-0.390; and normal fat mass in men between 10-20% and in women between 18-28%. The comparison of means was carried out using the Student's t test for paired samples and the comparison of proportions using the McNemar test. Results: -30 patients (80% men) were included.-The age was 60.2 (9.4) years.-The median stay was 10.5 (7.0-20.8) days.-The time elapsed …
