Ecuador and the Virtual High School Education in Pandemic Times


Abstract:

The world is going through a new normal, and all human activities have adapted to this reality. Education is one of the first activities that changed. The health crisis caused by COVID-19 generated that educational institutions at all levels will move to digital media and platforms. They implemented methodological strategies for students to continue with their classes and avoid delay in the curricular plan. Although all these strategies to safeguard the life of the educational community are necessary, there are also difficulties to access this modality of studies effectively. The research analyzes the strategies and technological tools used by educational institutions and teachers in the city of Loja, Ecuador, the advantages and disadvantages, the impact, and the acceptance of teachers and students to the new modality. A qualitative methodology is proposed with the application of a non-probability sampling through a digital survey of teachers and students at the secondary level.
