Abstract:

This project describes the interior architectural intervention of an apartment building focused on the design of a residential building for the Elderly, which has an area of 1,800 square meters located in the residential complex “El Condado”, north of the city of Quito between B and Francisco Rumihurco streets. Throughout history, the treat and care for Elderly has evolved, differently per community and era. This has allowed this age group today to become respected and appreciated members within the society. In the same way that house needs arrangements for the arrival of a baby, it needs preparations to properly host an older adult. As part of this project, there will be an interior design intervention of the basement, ground floor, pattern plant and the terrace, which will be divided into residential areas, health areas, entertainment (recreational and administrative). A combination of interior and exterior areas will complement the design and make it suitable for its users: older adults over the age of 58 within a medium to high socio-economic level. The residential building will be fitted for the distinctive situations of the residents considering if they are independent, dependent or prostrate. It offers equipped areas that will highly consider chromatic, materialization, ventilation, functionality, vegetation, and proper equipment for people with special abilities, as well as acoustic and special lighting for each zone. This interior design project is generated based on the need to obtain unique residential spaces that replace and break the stereotype of an asylum, both social and structurally. Thus, set an example of a lively space for the Elderly, their interaction and integration, resulting in a place that provides a better quality of live. A substantial spatial, functional and aesthetic modification will be achieved to meet all the needs of the occupants. Consequently, the intervention will enhance the facilities and its usage, implementing medical, therapeutic, and recreational areas but above all a residential space that meets with all the requirements and regulations necessary for its users.
