Education and health policies as a way to control the triggers of the Giardiasis
Abstract:
Parasitoses have negative consequences for society. A non-experimental, descriptive, prospective longitudinal research was conducted to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic and environmental factors on Giardiasis in 50 children from one to five years old in Estero de Enmedio, Los Ríos, Ecuador, September-December 2016. Three feces samples were collected for coproparasitological exams and a questionnaire was applied. The frequency of Giardiosis was 48.0%. Cardinal symptoms: diarrhea and abdominal pain, 64% of children drank well water, poor hand washing, contact with animals, infrequent collection of waste, low income (64%) and reduced instruction (38%). The factors that triggered the infection were: water without boiling, deficient environmental sanitation, low economic level and little preventive knowledge.
