Educational experiences in the design of competency-based programs in engineering education. Lecturers and students points of view
Abstract:
The present paper discusses results of a global study carried out during the past five years to adapt the degree of Electronic Engineering to the European Space for Higher Education (ESHE). The analysis offers a qualitative perspective to go deeply into the development of generic competencies in the degree by putting in practice the different teaching approaches advocated by the ESHE in order to promote the acquisition of both specific and generic competencies and skills belonging to the degree. The research project include topics such us, incorporation of competency-based programs in an Electronic Engineering degree curriculum, development of teaching approaches and planning of activities, workload student measurements according to theoretical workload analyses, as well as a new method to assess the student achievement in competencies acquisition. The work also tries to gather student and lecturers opinions aimed at the improvement of competency acquisition processes in higher education.
