Educational management in the context of higher education: the case of Ecuador


Abstract:

Higher education is the main engine of a country’s development. In the case of Latin America and, specifically, of Ecuador, universities face various challenges in their response to the main problems of contemporary society. Educational management is faced with the challenge of responding efficiently to these problems and demands. The objective of the work is to describe the characteristics of educational management in Ecuadorian higher education, carrying out a theoretical-documentary review. It was found that Ecuadorian universities face the challenge of improving academic quality levels and teaching and research rates. Training programs do not respond to the demands of the 21st century. Higher education organizations have little funding from the State. It is concluded that educational management is characterized by decision-making focused on political interests, leaving aside academic relevance in management.
