Educommunication and media literacy to combat fake news in social networks


Abstract:

In the current digital age, it is common to observe fake news or false news published on the Internet where more and more people depend on said content that appears on various platforms responsible for disseminating unverified data that grow and reproduce rapidly, affecting the information knowledge society. The research sought to know which are the social networks used by university students with the highest traffic of fake news and how affect to the individual who consumes them. The study applied the qualitative methodology with an analytical and descriptive approach, which allowed us to compare the social networks Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to know the platform where false news is spread, for this purpose an online survey was carried out by Google Forms to 500 people. The results indicate that the social networks with the greatest dissemination of fake news are WhatsApp and Facebook.
