Efecto de un insecticida formulado a base de neem (Azadiracha indica) sobre el desarrollo larval de Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) en maíz (Zea mays L.) bajo condiciones de laboratorio.
Abstract:
The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is one of the main pest insects that causes serious damage and losses in yield in corn cultivation in Ecuador. Several chemical products are used for its control, generally harmful to human health and causing serious damage to the different ecosystems of the biosphere. As a friendlier alternative, the effectiveness of several commercial insecticides formulated with biological microorganisms and plant extracts for the biological control of fall armyworm was evaluated in the laboratory. The insecticides evaluated in laboratories against stage 3 larvae were: Beauveria bassiana, Bacillus thuringiensis, Neem oil), as well as a chemical insecticide, as a positive control (Spinetoram). A completely randomized design with evaluations every 24 hours for four days at the same time was used for this research. The most effective product for the control of fall armyworm in relation to mortality after 96 hours of evaluation was: B. thuriguiensis at a low dose of (1.95ml - 0.39L), obtaining a mortality of 100%; followed by Neem at a low dose of (1.95ml - 0.39L) and B. bassiana at an average dose of (3.90ml - 0.7L), obtaining a mortality of 97.5 and as a chemical control Spinetoram, at a low dose of (0.39cc - 0.78L). The most effective products for the control of fall armyworm under laboratory conditions in relation to the time of action at 24 hours of evaluation were: Neem with 17.5% and Spinetoram with 100% mortality rate, while with B thuriguiensis and B. bassiana there was no mortality in the bioassay. The work revealed that it is possible to implement the use of biological and botanical insecticides for the control of S. frugiperda.
