Efecto del trauma oclusal sobre el periodonto
Abstract:
Currently, there is a consensus that occlusal trauma can be a common destructive factor in periodontal destruction, particularly affecting the supporting alveolar bone. The methods used in this research work are part of a literature review where we will considere the issues raised at a theoretical level, such as periodontal diseases and occlusal lesions. The data collection methods consist of electronic materials such as Google Scholar, PubMed, etc. Traumatic occlusion or occlusal trauma is caused by changes that result in dysfunction of the teeth, joints and muscles. It can be primary or secondary, with a symptom picture determined by this pathology. Occlusal trauma causes damage at the periodontal tissue level, which is reversible in the case of primary occlusal damage, while secondary damage is irreversible and dependent on periodontal health, associated with bruxism and altered periodontal health. A timely diagnosis and adequate treatment should be carried out, since, if the occlusal trauma is caused by plaque, bone loss and damage to dental structures can occur. Objective: To determine the effect of occlusal trauma on the periodontium. Methodology: The research is documentary, exploratory and qualitative. The data collection methods consist of electronic materials such as Google Scholar, PubMed. Conclusion: Occlusal trauma by itself cannot produce gingivitis or periodontitis. Therefore, in most cases occlusal trauma will not influence the degree of connective attachment loss. Recommendation: Inform patients with occlusal problems that, if left untreated, can progress over time and cause tooth loss.
