Efecto diurético del Xanthium strumarium L. (guizazo de caballo)

Abstract:

An experimental study was carried out in Wistar rats, to evaluate potential diuretic effect of fluid extract in 65 % hydroalcoholic solution from Xanthium strumarium L. We assayed three levels of dose: 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg of body weight. Results were compared to those obtained from Furosemide in dose of 5 mg/kg of body weight (reference diuretic) and 0,9 % sodium chloride (control). Urinary excretion was measured hourly up to sixth hour, and to final volumen, sodium and potassium concentration was determined. Authors could confirm similarity between diuretic action of extract and that of Furosemide, with a high level of accompanying natriuresis and kaluresis. © 2007 1999, Editorial Ciencias Médicas.
