Abstract:
The implants have emerged as a necessity in the pursuit of an ideal contraceptive, which has a high safety, minimal side effects, reversible, comfortable, easy to use and be long lasting. Are constituted by a silicone rubber, which is deposited on the progestin, levonorgestrel or desogestrel specifically. The desogestrel as a method of family planning began in 1996, contains an average of 70,000 cycles of 28 days and a duration of 3 years. The main advantages of implants has identified the stable release of the drug and prevent failures by the user, which is associated with confidence. But there has also been causing unwanted side effects in the first months of use, the most frequent are changes in menstrual cycle, in order of frequency, frequent and irregular bleeding, leaks or oligomenorrhea, prolonged bleeding, amenorrhea, dizziness, nausea, headache and pain. Other effects of progestins alone for its androgenic effect is weight gain, acne and hirsutism. The effectiveness in all models is greater than 99.5%, in fact, for some of them have not been reported cases of pregnancies during use (Implanon) but laboratories can not assume 100% effective because they believe that this is impossible. The truth is that they are effective as birth control but unfortunately have reduced side effects limited its acceptance and use.
