Efectos del cadmio sobre la germinación y crecimiento de Lens culinaris Medik. (Lenteja), Oryza Sativa L. (Arroz) y Phaseolus vulgaris L. (Frejol)
Abstract:
Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal, which generates in the plants the inhibition of germination and growth, decreasing the productivity of harvests. The main objective of this research was to evaluate its effect on the germination and growth of different varieties of Lens culinaris Medik., Oryza sativa L. and Phaseolus vulgaris L., to determine its degree of tolerance to Cd and propose its cultivation in agricultural soils contaminated with this metal. The bioassays were performed exposing different concentrations of Cd (0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4 and 8 mg/L) seeds of bean varieties (INIAP-481), rice (INIAP-14 and INAIP-FL Arenillas) and lentils (INIAP- 406 and LM-13) and so were evaluated the germination kinetics, the length of the radicles and the hypocotyls, the EC50 and the tolerance and phytotoxicity indices. The varieties INIAP-FL Arenillas and INIAP-406 showed a high degree of tolerance to cadmium at low concentrations (0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg/L). In the percentage of germination, the most affected variety was INIAP- 406 (18%) and the INIAP-14 least affected (93%) at 8 mg / L. The length of the radicle was the parameter most harmed by the Cd and the 8 mg/L total inhibition of l was observed. The integral phytotoxicity index showed that the varieties are affected at 4 mg/L Cd in the following order: LM13 (72%), INIAP-481 (66%), INIAP-14 (62%), INIAP-406 (42 %) INIAP-FL Arenillas (26%), the most tolerant variety is the Arenillas INIAP-FL rice and the less tolerant LM13 lentil.
