Effect of Slots in Rectangular Geometry Patch Antennas for Energy Harvesting in 2.4 GHz Band


Abstract:

This article presents a study about the effects caused by inserting slots in the patch of a rectangular geometry microstrip antenna, by analyzing the graph of the parameter S11 resulting from several simulations conducted with the help of the electromagnetic systems simulation software CST STUDIO SUITE. The microstrip antenna was designed for a resonance frequency GHz, with a fiberglass reinforced epoxy resin composite (FR4) substrate of and mm. It is observed in the simulation that the antenna initially works at 2.34 GHz, which represents a difference of 0.06 GHz with respect to the for which it was designed. Simulations were performed adding vertical and horizontal slots of different lengths in the patch, observing that the vertical slots influence the harmonic frequencies of the antenna, displacing them towards the lower side, as the length of the slot increases.
