Effect of activated charcoal on in vitro germination and shoot multiplication of Citrus limon (L.) and its growth dynamics

Abstract:

Tissue culture of Citrus limon has focused on the influence of growth regulators for their propagation. In the present study, the evaluation of the culture medium supplemented with activated charcoal presented better results than the addition of plant growth regulators. The in vitro culture of C. limon in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium added with activated charcoal (1 g.L-1), allowed to get favorable results in days after germination and shoot multiplication. In addition, the curves were generated for germination (introduction phase), stem length, number of shoots per plant, number of leaves per plant and leaf length (multiplication phase), these parameters allows to follow the growth dynamics. Finally, the correlation of the increase in the number of shoots and stem length was determined.
