Efficient method to mitigate transmission system overloads through line switching considering search space reduction

Abstract:

This paper proposes a new efficient method to mitigate transmission line overloads by switching lines, based on sensitivity analysis and heuristic techniques. The proposed method, which constitutes an improvement of a method that has been published in the literature recently, results in better processing times due to the use of a dedicated search space reduction procedure while searching for line switching alternatives. The proposed method is evaluated and discussed through simulations using different sized power transmission networks, and shows great potential for use in real time operations.
