El Mestizaje en Latinoamérica: Una Mirada desde los Dualismos

Abstract:

This document constitutes part of the research project carried out within the framework of the doctorate in Social Sciences of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de Colombia. This is structured from the following thesis:" Philosophical dualism has prevailed as the reference scheme on which the miscegenation category has been built in the Latin American academic context”. In order to defend the mentioned thesis, the revision of the pertinent bibliography was protocolized, for which it was necessary to revise selected academic texts and implement content analysis technique; processes that allowed to identify the following categories: a) Spanish binarisms prior to miscegenation Latin American; b) Binarisms in power relations during the colony; c) Binarian miscegenation as a pretext of ideological nationalisms. d) Miscegenation as a complex category. In this sense, three arguments are raised that support the aforementioned thesis: 1. The binarian scheme of thought has prevailed as a framework for reference to discursively construct the category of miscegenation in Latin America, based on matrix dualism civilization/barbarism. 2. Residual theoretical approaches that distance themselves from the binarian conception and subscribe to a relational perspective that understands miscegenation as emergent process are evidenced. 3. It is possible to approach miscegenation from an epistemological framework such as synechism proposed by the North American philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce, in such a way that epistemological, theoretical and methodological shifts can be evidenced in the manner of understanding this category.
