El deseo de maternidad en pacientes sujetas a tratamientos de reproducción asistida: una propuesta de psicoterapia


Abstract:

Objective: The main purpose of this research is to establish the criteria of psychotherapy for women who want to get pregnant under reproductive assisted treatments. This psychotherapy was based on the results of a preliminary study of the desire of maternity of women who insistently take complicated fertility treatments, many of which have a low possibility of being successful. Material and methods: The research took place in a Social Security Institute in Mexico City, with women of 25 to 40 years old that were previously diagnosed with primary sterility. These women were derived to assisted reproductive treatments as a last alternative, particularly of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (FIV-TE), in a third level hospital. The methodological instrument that was used was the psychological interview in the open and deep character. In the research it was investigated the influence and the contexts in which the desire of getting pregnant is developed. A hundred of women patients were interviewed; ten of them were deeply studied and followed up. The research was based on the qualitative-interpretative method, and inside this methodology it was worked with grounded theory design. Results: Based on fact analysis it has found that gender, family pressures, the medical institution, the narcissist structures of personality, the imaginary child and the side effects of the treatment were important elements that influenced the “desire of maternity”. Among them narcissistic personality and imaginary child were central in women narrative.
