Abstract:

The Guayaquilean team Barcelona Sporting Club is found in 1925. A group of young people from ASTILLERO neighborhood, held a meeting in Eutimio Perez house, a Catalan citizen, who lived in Guayaquil in order to create a sports institution, without thinking that through the time, a humble team would become the most important football club of Ecuador. It is popular known as “the Idol", and it has been categorized as a social phenomenon and even managed to mark a sense of belonging and identification in their supporters. Soccer fans who are in love with the “YELLOW TEAM” never leave it alone, neither in good ones or bad ones, they knew how to push it through its unqualified support, going to the stadium and not leaving it to encourage anytime. The sports journalists, analysts and historians became the direct source to learn more relevant data, on the basis of their experiences to confirm the idolatry that nowadays, continues to maintain the team. Barcelona from Guayaquil is not only characterized for having the largest number of followers in Ecuador but also in all social status. It is also considered as an enterprise, being one of the most consumed products by the fans, offering benefits from economic incomes to the club and also provide sources of job to traders. Children dream to play for Barcelona Sporting Club, a goal in the future that is strengthened through the time, with passion and affection that only a true fan is able to feel. Many experts claim that this phenomenon will pass from generation to generation as one of the most valuable legacy for Ecuadorians and it will not disappear.
