El libro álbum en el Ecuador: factores que han influenciado su desarrollo

Abstract:

This investigation begins with some definitions that have been proposed for what we know as picture book. It also suggests a list of seven distinctive elements that can be identified in all of this type of books. Some other characteristics as the relationship between text and image are described and explained in order to understand more from this visual art that is so valued in children’s, youth, and, why not, adult literature. After this conceptualization, you will find information about the history of children’s literature in Ecuador, characterized by being highly appreciated specially by foreigners. Then there is a small register of the books that may be called as “precursors” of the picture book in the country. Even though it is a short history, there are some books that are important to mention not only because they stand out but also because they have won international awards. Finally, the investigation presents a methodological tool designed to analyze and categorize books that might be considered picture books. This tool was use with a list of books given by publishing houses and authors, so it presents information that can be conclusive regarding the factors that helped or worked against the development of picture books.
