Electrical and mechanical Fault identification in a three phase Transformer from its V-I characteristics

Abstract:

Transformers play an important role in power systems in providing energy transfer. Unforeseen breakdowns of transformers bring inconvenience and momentary losses to both the consumers and operators. Condition monitoring is the key in minimizing catastrophic failures as it detects the abnormalities in transformers and allows for pbkp_redictive maintenance to be taken. In this paper, the usefulness of electrical signature analysis, specifically \Delta V-I locus, in detecting low magnitude faults is explored. Experiments are conducted with emulation of fault on a transformer test rig. The collected V-I characteristics data are presented in a graphical form and the summary in a tabular form.
