Electrokinetic Transport Coefficients of Methanol-Water Mixtures Through Polystyrene Plugs: Concentration Dependence of Phenomenological Coefficients
Abstract:
An experimental investigation of the electrokinetic transport of binary methanol-water mixtures through polystyrene porous plugs is described. The concentration dependence of the coefficients L11, L2l and L22in the polystyrene/binary methanol-water system was non-linear. A similar dependence was found for 1/η (η, absolute viscosity), ε,ζ/η (εr, dielectric constant, ζ, zeta potential) and λ (electrical conductivity) on the composition of the binary mixture. These results confirm the decisive influence of the physical properties of the liquid mixture on the actual values of the electrokinetic transport coefficients. Some electroviscous effects are suggested when one compares the ionic strength dependence of the coefficient L11 and the fluidity on the polystyrene /50% v/v methanol-water mixture. © Copyright 1992 Walter de Gruyter.
