Embedded device for blood pressure monitoring
Abstract:
Hypertension is one of leading causes of death worldwide; due to the absence of symptoms that alert about illness at its beginnings. This article proposes the experimental developing of a blood pressure monitoring device as an instrument for hypertension diagnostic based on oscilometric method. The blood pressure detection algorithm, correlates the pressure signal acquired by a transducer and the filtered pulsing signal from the same to determine the mean blood pressure value that corresponds at max pulse detected, systolic pressure value is obtained from the inflection point of pulsing signal envelope and diastolic pressure is calculated with the relationship between mean arterial pressure and systolic and diastolic values. Tests on ten patients had shown that the device reliability is withing permissible values established by the AAMI with an ±4mmHg error, as compared to a commercial device. In addition, two of patients under analysis has presented high blood pressure values, alerting about 2 prehypertension cases.
