Energy energetic balance in adolescent athletes of the Manta Canton (Manabí, Ecuador).
Abstract:
Introduction: The Energy Balance is an interactive and dynamic process that reflects body mass and as a functional object susceptible to change, it requires follow-up particularly in adolescents who practice systematic physical activity. Objective: To evaluate the energy balance in adolescent athletes of the Manta Canton (Manabi, Ecuador). Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study on 94 male adolescents in the Sub16 Soccer category. Information on nutrimental energy intake and energy expenditure is col-lected through a 24-hour reminder and time/movement survey, as well as anthropometric traits. Results: The incorporation of food energy reaches 1847.45±351.87 kcal/d, with average value over total weight of 33.72±2.05 kcal and 35.81±1.76 kcal with respect to muscle mass. The values of protein intake are acceptable. The energy expenditure is 3433, 17±121, 76 kcal, the highest levels in sports practice and those of sedentary nature. While the fatty and muscular compartments are 3.22±0.57 and 51.70±0.15 kg. Discussion: Depression was determined in the incorporation of dietary energy with respect to consumption recommendations reported by international organizations with statistically significant differences between them (t= 44.405, p-value= 0.00, p< 0.05), reflecting the insufficient incorporation of macronutrients, but not in relation to Fat Free Mass and reveals a negative energy balance with repercussion on nutritional status. Conclusions: The energy energetic balance is negative and limits the establishment of body energy reserves, conditioning a restricted fat compartment and potential undesirable adaptive responses.
