Energy-Based Model for Simulating and Control the Traction System of Electric Bikes

Abstract:

The present paper deals with the simulation and control design of the traction system of an electric pedal assisted cycle. The traction system is composed of an in wheel DC machine mounted on the rear wheel. Its armature winding is connected to a chopper used to control the energy provided by the battery. Additionally the rear wheel receives the torque provided by the cyclist on the pedals. The model of the complete traction system is represented using Energetic Macroscopic Representation. Based on this model, the control structure is deduced in a straightforward manner. Simulation results are provided in order to illustrate the proposal and to analyze the performance of the closed-loop system.
