Enfermedad periodontal en infantes con Síndrome de Down

Abstract:

Children with Down syndrome present a variety of clinical characteristics that involve their physical, physiological, cognitive, and odontostomatological state that are directly related to their oral health, they present a higher risk of oral disorders that contribute negatively, being considered with greater recurrence of the periodontal disease, the risk factors that are involved for the generation of its evolution will be both local and acquired that is its systemic state. OBJECTIVE: To substantiate the risk factors that influence periodontal disease in infants with Down syndrome. METHODOLOGY: Research of qualitative approach, exploratory, documentary, retrospective, and descriptive design, using bibliographic scientific analysis techniques, data collection instrument using search engines, Scielo Magazine, Elsevier, Web of Sciences, PubMed, Google Academy. RESULTS: Risk factors: Their development of periodontal disease and its progression is related to exogenous factors directly involving their oral hygiene and microbiological profile and endogenous or acquired genetic and systemic factors, with greater prevalence in their evolution, their salivary pH, alteration of dental morphology, macroglossia, late eruption, dental malocclusions and lack of knowledge on the part of the tutors in charge were analyzed. CONCLUSIONS: The greatest risk for the development of periodontal disease is the presence of pathogenic microorganisms which is related to bacterial plaque that is lodged directly with the periodontium and causing contamination and destruction in periodontal tissues.
