(The importance of alternate compressive and extensional tectonic phases in the evolution of intracontinental faults in south-west Turkey).
Abstract:
Neotectonic field analysis of Neogene and Quaternary fault mechanisms in Southwestern Anatolia enable us to recognize a succession of compressional and extensional events. It can be noticed when considering two successive events in the same area, the direction of minimum stress remains the same, but the maximum and middle stress vectors are inverted. The mechanical explanation which is proposed here is quite different from the comparison usually admitted between graben and tensional joints. -English summary
