(The pyroclastic deposits of Saint-Vincent type from Pico de Orizaba, Mexico: peculiar events related to the recent evolution of the volcano).

Abstract:

Volcanological characteristics and ages of pyroclastic deposits (nuees ardentes) from Pico de Orizaba are presented. 14C data indicate that the eruptions started 13 000 yrs ago. During a period of 7000 to 8000 yrs, the volcano experienced various important pyroclastic events with a cycle in order of 1000 to 1500 yr. The eruptive cycle is interpreted as the result of recurring injection of deep renewed magma (high temperature) within a dactitic chamber rich in volatiles. Pyroclastic activity, linked to deep magma supplies, stresses the part of magma-mixing process during the evolution of this type of andesitic volcanoes. -from English summary
