Engagement and burnout in faculty of university of guayaquil
Abstract:
This research aimed to determine the levels of engagement and burnout in the teachers of the University of Guayaquil. The study was non-experimental, transactional, as a tool an online instrument was applied to 65 teachers from the Faculty of Dentistry. The results determined that there are low levels of emotional fatigue (2.95) and depersonalization (2.43) and high levels of personal fulfillment (5.65). A high level of engagement could also be identified, characterized by vigor (5.9), dedication (6.05) and absorption (5.79). Significant differences were found in terms of emotional exhaustion between teachers who have been appointed and those with services provided and in two of the burnout dimensions: personal fulfillment and depersonalization, with respect to work seniority. No significant differences were found regarding the gender, age and marital status of the participants. It concludes on the need to evaluate, by the directors of higher education institutions, those factors that are promoting work engagement and establish strategies to prevent teachers from falling into burnout.
