Environmental education and intercultural praxis from the ancestral philosophy of sumak kawsay

Abstract:

The objective of the paper is to reflect on Environmental Education in Ecuador, whose Constitution of 2008 recognized the Rights of Nature. This work presents the follow-up to the educational practices implemented through the ‘TiNi’s Methodology,’ where students learn from the natural environment in a theoretical-practical way. As a result, the socio-environmental discourse conceptually based on sustainable development is questioned and an eco-pedagogical alternative focused on the Andean worldview of Sumak Kawsay is proposed, which seeks to restore nature through regenerative development. To conclude, an inter-epistemological dialogue between ancestral wisdom and scientific knowledge is promoted.
