Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis
Abstract:
Discussion: Non traumatic etiologies resulting in compartment syndrome occur less frequently but can occur from certain infectious etiologies that cause a robust immune response resulting in increased compartmental pressure, excessive fluid resuscitation mostly from medical personnel, prolonged limb compression following intoxication, or, rarely, direct injury from drugs [2]. Renal failure typically occurs in DICS due to numerous factors playing a synergistic role resulting in kidney damage. Along with myoglobin associated toxic effects from rhabdomyolysis, drugs also have a direct effect on the kidney parenchyma as well as a shock state resulting in tubular necrosis and various electrolyte abnormalities. It is important to have a high level of suspicion of compartment syndrome in IV drug users who may complain solely of muscular pains to avoid the devastating outcome of renal failure that would often require HD.
