Epidemiologic behavior of hypothyroidism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from the city of Loja-Ecuador
Abstract:
Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and hypothyroidism are two of the most common metabolic disorders in the general population. The main objective of this study is to analyze the epidemiologic behavior of T2DM patients who also suffer from hypothyroidism. Methods and Materials: The study population was represented by 226 T2DM patients, who received medical attention at the researcher's private practice. The selection took place between august 2012 and December 2013. Out of these, 63 individuals were selected based on their clinical history (Body mass index, blood pressure, waist circumference) and the assessment of TSH, FT4, antithyroid Antibodies, glycemia, HBA1C, lipid profile, microalbuminuria.
