Epidemiology and control of east coast fever in africa: A literature review

Abstract:

Theileria parva, the causative agent of East Coast fever is largely distributed in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa. Its distribution follows that of its main vector Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, a three host hard tick. The control of the infection depends of control methods used and adapted to local conditions which greatly influence the incidence of the infection and determine the level of host-vector interactions. The clinical signs of both acute and chronic forms are presented in this work. The different epidemiological states of the disease and the different control methods (curative treatment, fight against vectors and immunization of susceptible animals) are also described in detail.
