An Approach of Low-cost Software-Defined Network (SDN) Based Internet of Things

Abstract:

During the last years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has been increased its use in the industrial processes. IoT equipment has low processing capabilities, limited memory, limited storage, and minimal network protocol support. The software-defined networks (SDN) is a solution to improve the applications of IoT networking performance and overcome shortcomings that currently exist. The aim of this research is to design and implement an SDN-IoT testbed, which provides a scale infrastructure facility suitable for testing low-cost devices and heterogeneous communicating objects for IoT. The testbed architecture design has three layers: process layer, SDN layer, and IoT application layer. To demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed IoT testbed, it is used to control simulated industrial process.
