Escenarios eruptivos en el volcán Cayambe y construcción de un árbol de eventos
Abstract:
Abstract (Eruptive scenarios at Cayambe volcano and building of an event tree): Cayambe is an active stratovolcano located in the Eastern Cordillera (Ecuador). Due to its frequent Holocene activity and recent unrest, we propose to update the eruptive scenarios in order to improve hazard assessment. In addition to the two scenarios (S2 and S3) used to create the current hazard map, two smaller scenarios (S0 and S1) are characterized in order to better account the diversity of eruptions at Cayambe. Then the current unrest is assessed using an event tree where the nodes 1 to 5 are fed with geological and geophysical data. We conclude that the unrest observed until end of november 2016 was probably associated to the magmatic or hydrothermal system. Even though, the probability of an eruption at mid-term (1 month) remained below par and most probably it would have produced a small eruption with mainly tephra falls and lahares.
