An EFL student case study of English as a foreign language in the Tourism and Hotel Management qualification at UTPL- TEFL program portfolio


Abstract:

This study is about an EFL student case study of English as a foreign language in the Tourism and Hotel Management qualification at UTPL..- TEFL student program portfolio during September 2011 – May 2012, the last term of the Master´s Program. This research was carried out in the city of Loja the capital of Loja province. For this research work, the qualitative research and several methods were used. The qualitative research was used for the narrative data in all of the process; and the scientific method in order to compare the empirical data with the scientific one, the cognitive language learning method was used because it employs strategies for direct instruction of learning strategies and for teaching language through education content, and the natural approach because it focuses on the theory of learning. Main findings were found after the analysis of the artifacts. Artifacts showed that grammar errors were made at the beginning but at the end student´s grammar errors were minimal. Additionally, the use of TESOL/NCATE standards demonstrated how the program content has been applied to teaching EFL in the master´s program.
