Especialización, diversificación y localización sectorial en Ecuador y su incidencia en el ingreso regional

Abstract:

The objective of this research is to evaluate the incidence of specialization, diversification and sectoral localization in the regional income in Ecuador. We calculate an index of specialization, diversification and sectoral location and then evaluate the effect of these indices on the regional per capita income. The results show that the specialized regions in the agricultural sector are the least developed and those specialized in manufacturing and services have greater development. A policy implication derived from this research is that specialization in the manufacturing sector and services are key to favor the development of the peripheral regions.
