Establishing capacity of delayed coking pilot plant

Abstract:

A procedure to establish delayed coking pilot plant capacity capable of reproducing full-scale produced coke was proposed. Required by this procedure, the operating parameters and the criteria for the establishment of said capacity are defined. The operating parameters were the fluid dynamics, the thermal profile, and the time to fill the coking drums. Additional constraints were things like minimum coke quantities required for laboratory assays, sizing of piping and vessels, coking in pipes, valves and various equipment, waste disposal and whenever possible, the use of commercial size piping and vessels. This procedure resulted in a length/diameter ratio, which fulfilled the criteria, mentioned and permitted the desired reproduction of the operating parameters. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (Glasgow, Scotland 7/10-14/2005).
