Estado nutricional en atletas de la Federación Deportiva del Azuay en Cuenca periodo octubre 2016 – junio 2017


Abstract:

BACKGROUND: In Ecuador there are very athletes who maintain an adequate nutritional regime, we have not found current research that refers us as athletes are carrying their food today, therefore, having a general idea of the problem to be studied is difficult. OBJECTIVE: To describe the nutritional status of the athletes of the Sports Federation of Azuay, who practice the discipline of athletics in the city of Cuenca period October 2016 - June 2017. OBJECTIVE: To describe the nutritional status of the athletes of the Sports Federation of Azuay, who practice the discipline of athletics in the city of Cuenca period October 2016 - June 2017. METHODOLOGY: A prospective, descriptive, cross - sectional study was carried out between October 2016 and June 2017, the universe consisted of 31 athletes belonging to the Azuay Sports Federation of the city of Cuenca, aged between 14 - 18 years, the nutritional status was evaluated through an anthropometric assessment and an estimate of dietary intake. Then, with the information obtained, an adequate guide was developed on the correct nutrition that athletes who practice this discipline should have. RESULTS: The population was composed as follows: 45.2% were female and 54.8% were male, where 71% showed a high level of physical activity, that is, a normal weight according to the body mass index, a 6.5 % Presented low weight, while 12.9% overweight for age, the average percentage of localized body fat was 20.2%, with an unhealthy diagnosis or obesity for 2.3% of athletes. When interpreting the average arm circumference, it was found that 6.5% presents a risk of malnutrition, there is a deficit in the calorie intake in 58.06%, carbohydrates in 74.19% and fats in 48.3%, contrary to the protein intake is found high for 58.06% of the population. CONCLUSIONS: The values obtained show deficits of macronutrients and calories in the diet, according to the 24-hour reminders protein intake exceeds the recommendations, and athletes show a good nutritional status with the possibility of presenting long-term malnutrition problems of continuing with the current intake and a state of low weight and overweight in a small percentage. It is necessary to establish a nutritional education for parent, trainers and athletes in general as a corrective measure.
