Estereotipos de género: elección de carrera, rol masculino y educación inicial
Abstract:
Introduction: The stereotypes have penetrated the educational field, to the point of doubting the suitability and masculinity of students who choose to pursue the initial education career, because it has historically been performed by women. Objective: To determine which gender stereotypes influence the choice of career in initial education students. Methodology: it was developed under a descriptive typology, with a transversal cut, with a quantitative approach, of a non-experimental nature, with a field design. Participants: 15 male students of the initial education career who are studying at the Santa Elena Peninsula State University and 4 professionals teaching initial education. Conclusions: Gender stereotypes influence the choice of career in male students of the initial education career, since it has been internalized in the minds of the members of the population that there are careers that must be taken by women and others by men. men, inhibiting them from choosing this career for their study and subsequent exercise. Students of the Initial Education career are recommended to investigate and implement strategies aimed at raising awareness among parents of educational institutions where the level of initial education is taught about the male role, its importance and acceptance in this context, emphasizing the parity of the level of skills and knowledge with respect to their female counterparts.
