Estimación de la edad gestacional mediante los métodos Ballard y Capurro comparados con la fecha de la última menstruación confiable, en recién nacidos a término y post término, en el Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Cuenca 2014
Abstract:
Objective: Estimate the gestational age by implying the Ballard and Capurro methods in order to compared them to last menstrual period (LMP) in term infants. Materials and Methods: A quantitative descriptive study took place; it included in term newborns according to the LMP from the HVCM, 2014. The number of newborns was 1314 from which a sample of 297 was selected, with 95% of confidence interval and 5% sampling error. The instruments used were the Capurro Test and Ballard. For data analysis, Excel 2007 and SPSS 20.0 were employed. In order to determine characteristics of the population and substantial findings, measures of central tendency were used, degree of correlation through scatter plots and by regression analysis with the calculation of the R2 index, and Pearson coefficient. Results: When comparing these values to the LMP, the percentage of correct responses from the Ballard was 71.38% and 64.31% for the Capurro. When calculating the gestational period for female newborns, both methods had a higher percentage of correct values: on the RNTAEG with 72% for Ballard and 71% for Capurro, and for children weighing more than 3500gr (78% and 65% respectively). Finally, when determining the degree of correlation between the LMP and the Ballard, the Pearson coefficient was found to be 43% correlation and 46% for the Capurro test. Conclusion: Both methods exhibit a high percentage of correct values when being compared to LMP, when calculating gestational age better outcomes were seen on female infants, RNAEG, and newborns weighting above the 3500gr. Though, both methods have a low degree of correlation when compared to the last reliable date of menstruation.
