Estimated glomerular filtration rate calculated with the new CKD-EPI-creatinin-Cystatin C equation and long-term prognostic in chronic heart failure
Abstract:
Background: Correct estimation of renal function is crucial in assessing prognosis of patients with HF. Recently, a new equation for estimation of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using combined creatinine and cystatin C levels (CKD-EPI-creatinine-cystatin C) was proposed. Objectives: To assess the prognostic role of eGFR calculated with a this equation in outpatients with heart failure (HF) over a long-term follow-up and to compare it with eGFR calculated with the Cockroft-Gault formula. Methods: The study included 879 patients: median age, 70.4 years; main etiology of HF ischemic heart disease, 52.7%; and median LVEF, 34%. Results: The formulas correlated significantly (ICC 0.877 [0.861–0.892]), but distribution of patients among National Kidney Foundation groups was different (Kappa value 0.51 [0.785; 0.604]). During a median follow-up of 3.94 years, 371 patients died …
