An analysis of the digital media agenda setting in Ecuador: A case study of Confirmado. net, Elciudadano. gov. ec and Informateypunto. com

Abstract:

This paper analyzes the thematic agenda of three digital newspapers in Ecuador: confirmado. net; elciudadano. gov. ec and informateypunto. com. The overall objective of this descriptive study is to examine the key theoretical tenets of agenda setting. It discusses key variables such as news themes, digital newspaper sections, the geographical origin of news items, the foci of the news items and, lastly, the news sources. The paper concludes that digital media in Ecuador require a more balanced coverage across the national territory, and that the influence of political and governmental themes is significant.
