An experimental support tool for power electronics education

Abstract:

Because the high cost of equipment for teaching Power Electronics, both in acquisition and maintenance costs, several researchers have opt for building their own tools. This work presents the pedagogical and technical characteristics of the proposed tools. First, a review shows some of the equipments, systems and tools for training and teaching in Power Electronics built by universities or institutes. The proposed prototype consists of a modular set of electronic boards, a central processing unit, a measurement unit, a power module and a board for communications and data exchange across internet. This development simplifies the work in power electronics and related disciplines, allowing interdisciplinary training of engineering students and serving as support for active learning methods.
