Estudio comparativo del descenso del pH salival después del consumo de una bebida azucarada en niños con y sin síndrome de down, en edades comprendidas entre 8 a 14 años
Abstract:
Objective: To compare the increase or decrease of acid potential of saliva in school children "Eloy Alfaro" in the city of Ambato and in children with Down Syndrome of "EFEER" school of Quito, after intake a sugar drink (milk chocolate), using indicator strips salivary pH in the oral cavity. Methods: We selected 40 children without Down Syndrome and 40 children with Down Syndrome ages ranging from 8-14 years old. Each participant will be distributed in equal amounts sweetened beverage selected for the study. The behavior of salivary pH was evaluated before and after intake in the established times (5, 20 and 45 minutes). Results: By measuring the initial pH before the intake of milk chocolate, a mean (6.5 and 7.2) observed for children with and without Down Syndrome, respectively, after 5 minutes, down is observed Salivary pH (5.7 and 6.1), showing that there is no significant difference in the two study groups, after 20 minutes, pH (6.3 and 6.7) respectively observed at 45 minutes may be considered restoring initial similar to salivary pH in the two study groups (6.6 and 7.1). Conclusions: The intake of sugary drinks causes the decline of the pH of saliva. The decrease in salivary pH occurred at 5 minutes after drinking chocolate milk and reinstatement was 45 minutes in the two participating groups.
