Estudio comparativo entre el CANS score y valoración antropométrica convencional en el recién nacido en el área de Materno Infantil del Hospital Dr. Teodoro Maldonado Carbo. Guayaquil, Ecuador 2018.
Abstract:
Fetal malnutrition is a clinical condition that can cause different problems in the child if it is not treated in time. There is a higher incidence of fetal malnutrition in developing countries with numbers between 2 and 10 % of newborns in that population. The objective of the study is to determine which method is more effective for detecting fetal malnutrition in the newborn baby. Non-experimental, cross-sectional study that evaluated 104 newborns in the neonatology area of Dr. Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital. Each neonate was evaluated using 4 different parameters (weight, size, McLaren index and CANS score) to determine their nutritional status. According to the weight parameter was found 88% of RN well-nourished and 12% malnourished. According to the size 69% of RN was well-nourished and 31% malnourished. According to the McLaren index there were 38% of well-nourished RN and 62% malnourished. And according to the CANS score 62% of RN wellnourished and 38% malnourished, where according to the sex the prevalence of malnutrition is higher in boys (27%) than in girls (11%). The CANS score is a more sensitive method for detecting malnutrition in newborn infants than the conventional anthropometric parameters in which there is too much variation of the data obtained.
