An interactive LED lighting interface for high energy savings
Abstract:
In this paper we demonstrate the potential energy savings by implementing an interactive LED lighting interface using a Zig-Bee based Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for both monitoring and control of the lighting system. Existing lighting systems are clock-oriented and offer limited monitoring and control capabilities. The proposed system automatically adjusts the illumination level of individual lamps according to the ambient lighting conditions and occupancy pattern of the surrounding; it is also adaptable to regions (or) different time-zones by itself. The inter-lamp communication over the master-slave network facilitates an efficient lighting system beyond individual lamp fixtures. Remote monitoring helps in condition monitoring while remote control enables easy user interference. The proposed system will result in lower maintenance cost, higher energy savings and eventually leads to a faster return-on-investment of the system. In this paper, a prototype of the system is presented and its feasibility is demonstrated. © 2014 IEEE.
